Mrs. Shalcross Battersby, of Burwood Crescent, Jlemuera, sailed by the Maunganui on Monday for Sydney, where she will join the Strathaird en route to India. She is accompanied by Mrs. F. Carnaby, of Grafton, who will be her guest on a five months' holiday visit in Calcutta.

News has been received that Miss Una Powell, a former student of Canterbury College and holder of the 1935 Sir William Hartley scholarship. luin passed the examination for the Diploma of Education at London University. Before going to London, Miss Powell studied for two years at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she gained the mathematical tripos. While in London she took a special course of study in vocational guidance.

Two New Zealanders, Mre. George? Cox, of Auckland, and Mrs. C. E. Carter, of Napier, had the great good luck while visiting Balmoral to meet Anton Walbrook and Anna Neagle, all in costume, making the coming big film, "Sixty Glorious Years," wrote our London correspondent on August 11. The New Zealanders were asked if they enjoyed "Victoria the Great," and when the Dominion was mentioned Mr. Wal brook and Miss Neagle were all the more pleased to meet them.

Mrs. A. S. P. Brookfield, St. Heliers Bay, Auckland, travelled from New Zealand via Suez and arrived in London in time for the private view of the Royal Academy. She was present at the' Empire dinner of the Royal Horticultural Rose Society, at the Savoy Hotel, and was also among the guests at the reception which the High Commissioner and Mrs. .Jordan held at the end of July. At the end of September, .Mrs. Brookfield will leave for New Zealand by the Strathmore, wrote our London correspondent on August 8.

Mrs. Walter L. Eastbury, of Auckland, had an interesting tour by train across the United States and Canada after landing from the Mariposa at San Francisco, wrote our London correspondent on August 8. With her husband, Mrs. Eastbury will spend a month in Devonshire, with Exeter as headquarters. Then a tour will be made of the Cotswold country. Return passages have been booked by the Akaroa, leaving Southampton on October 28, so that Auckland should be reached at the beginning of December.
