MARKETING PRODUCE

CONTROL BY FARMERS PUKEKOHE RESOLUTION [from outr owx correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday Complete control by farmers of the marketing of primary produce was advocated by Mr. W. D. Lysnar, formerly M.P. for Gisborne, in a public address in Pukekohe last evening under the auspices of the Farmers' Union. Mr. C. A. Moore presided over an attendance of about 40 farmers. "I contend that the want of stable marketing and finance for producers, coupled with the power ol' inde|H?ndent trusts and combines, is the root of producers' troubles," Mr. Lysnar said. "That can only be remedied by legislation, which Parliament does not seem willing to put into effect." The present position had been brought about largely as a legacy from the company laws, the speaker continued. Monopoly was unquestionably throttling the world and without the provision and enforcement of anti-monopoly laws, there could bo no stability. The meeting unanimously carried a resolution that it was desirable that all candidates for Parliament at the coming election should be asked to pledge themselves to support legislation with three objects—the curbing ol' the activities of trusts and combines; stabilising of the overseas marketing of New Zealand produce by the establishment of selling organisations controlled by a board appointed by producers on the elective ward system and who would co-operate where possible with other countries; and the provision ol some better svstein of finance for farmers, preferably under an agricultural banking system.
