Tuesday Cabinet has approved the following purchases of land for State houses:— Auckland: —A single section in Seymour Street, Ellerslie; land in Oakley Avenue, Waterview, sufficient for seven houses; an area between Long Drive and Ciiallinor Road, St. Helrers, sufficient for five houses; land in Dominion Road, Duke Street, Lonvain and Cambrai Avenues, Mount Roskill, sufficient for nine houses; an area in Great North Road, Grey Lynn, sufficient for 18 houses; land in Meola and Walker Roads, Form by and Shakespeare Roads and Carrington Road, Point Chevalier, sufficient for 12 houses.

PLANS FOR ELLERSLIE ,

BOROUGH COUNCIL'S VIEWS

Plans of typical two and three-house units which are proposed to be erected in the Ellerslie district were received last night by the Ellerslie Borough Council from the Director of Housing, Mr. A. Tvndall. He requested the council to state the minimum frontage and area required for the respective house blocks.

The Mayor, Mr. H. J. White, said the department intended to build up to 30 houses and had already acquired a number of sites. He.suggested that I the question of area and frontage j should bo governed by public health , requirements.

It was decided to advise the department that no objection would be raised j provided those requirements were com- j plied with. !

A decision to ask the Under-Secre-tary for Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee. to visit Papakura to inspect properties considered by the council as suitable for the erection of State houses, was reached at a special meeting of the Papakura Borough Council last evening.

The Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, said that the housing problem was an acute one in Papakura, and he suggested that Mr. Lee should be approched direct on the matter.
