NEW AIRWAYS HANGAR

WORK BEGUN AT GISBORNE UP-TO-DATE EQUIPMENT [by telegraph OWN* correspondent] GISBORNE, Tuesday Work has begun on the foundations tor the new hangar which Union Airways, Limited, is erecting for the accommodation of its machines at Darton Field. It is expected that tho new hangar, with administrative offices and provision for workshop and staff quarters at either end, will be ready for occupation in about three months.

P The development of Darton Field has already advanced a long way. Since tho acquisition of the additional land adjoining the original aerodrome, levelling operations have doubled the area available for the manoeuvring of aircraft. The time has come for the demolition of the old hangar, which is inadequate for the larger machines now being used. In the new building there will be space for three large machines. The hangar will be on the standard lines adopted tor major aerodromes throughout New Zealand and will be modelled upon that at Mangcre. It will have main doors opening to a maximum width of SOft., and the equipment will include the latest plant for dealing with the running and maintenance of aeroplanes and emergency repair work. The Public Works Department is now calling tenders for the erection of a radio station building, approximately 26ft. by 16ft., accommodating the operating room staff and offices. This building will house the radio plant now operating from a temporary hut adjacent to the old hangar.
