BOY OF 11 AT WHEEL
"A COMPETENT DRIVER" STEPFATHER PROSECUTED BREACH OF THE REGULATIONS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The unusual charge of aiding and assisting his 11-year-old stepson to commit a breach of the motor regulations was preferred against Claude Nicholas Bates, farmer, of Rototuna, in the Hamilton Police Court. The charge was admitted.
Inspector C. D. Treadgold said he saw a car driven by a boy who appeared to bo too young to hold a licence. Defendant was with him. A boy could not hold a licence until ho was 15. Mr. J. R. Fitz-Gerakl said the offence was committed in ignorance. The boy wrw a competent driver. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay tho costs.
