ORDERED OFF LAND

ONE MONTH'S NOTICE

FRENCH FARMERS IN ITALY AREA TO BE FORTIFIED Times Cable LONDON. August 28 Eight hundred Frenchmen resident at Isola, Alpes Maritimes, whose land is on the Italian side of the frontier, owing to the boundary drawn up under the treaty of 1860, have been advised by the Italian authorities that the land is required for military purposes and must be handed over immediately, says • the Paris correspondent .of the Times.

If the demand is accepted by to-day the farmers will be given a month in which to remove their cattle and gather their harvest.

Otherwise troops will occupy -the farms and work on fortifications will be begun without delay. The Mayor says the owners are rejecting the demand in the hope that the French and Italian Government® will compromise.
