CONSERVATOR RETIRES MR. W. G. MORRISON I »y TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT J CHRISTCHURCH, Monday After 40 years' service, Mr. W. G. Morrison, Conservator of State Forests, of Christchurch, lias retired. Mr. Morrison joined the State Forest Service in IS9S and was appointed an assistant forester in 1902, in which capacity he saw service in Canterbury, Marlborough, Otago and Rotorua. In 1926 he was made Conservator of forests in Canterbury. During his period of office Mr. Morrison saw the exotic forests of the Dominion grow from practically nothing to approximately 500,000 acres, and the dedication of 10,000.000 acres of indigenous forest as State forest reserves. He has had the unusual experience of seeing through a complete cycle of forest operations, from the planting of the seed to the milling of the final crop and the use of the timber in the building of houses. Mr. Morrison is known in Christchurch for his keen interest in tennis and golf. He served in ■ the Boer War with the Bth New Zealand Rough Riders. i
