BOY FOOTBALLERS

PLAYERS FROM COUNTRY WELCOMED BY MAYOR There was a large gathering of primary school footballers from Auckland provincial centres at the Town Hall at noon yesterday, when they wero given a mayoral welcome by t the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. The boy 3 are taking part in the annual competition for tin* Roller Mills Shield. The Auckland Rugby Union was represented at the reception by its president, Mr. H. Frost. The Mayor said he was very pleased to welcome the boys on behalf of tho citizens of Auckland. Ho was glad to see such a large gathering of country lads and hoped they would enjoy their visit to the city. He did not want to encourage them to come to Auckland too often, as tho city depended on the country, 'and is was desirable that, the boys should devote themselves to farming and agriculture generally. Sir Ernest thanked the citizens who were billeting tho boys and said ho hoped the visitors would have an enjoyable tournament and go back to their homes with pleasant thoughts of tho Auckland people and tho city. Appreciation of the welcome was expressed by the president of the Auckland Primary Schools Rugby Union, Mr. A. B. Floyd, nnd Mr. H.' Curd, of Pukekohe, replied on behalf of the boys. After giving threo cheers for the Mayor and singing tho National Anthem, the boys enjoyed a short recital on the Town Hall organ by Mr T. Sparling.
