The dead man, who was aged 23 years, had a criminal record.

The pensioner, whose face and scalp were severely lacerated, said that the man had spoken to him and had induced him to enter tho park, where he attacked him, demanding money.

A long struggle followed, and in a desperate attempt to save himself the old roan seized his assailant's shirt collar and twisted it against his windpipe. Hearing cries, a pedestrian came to the pensioner's assistance and telephoned for the police. After treatment at a hospital, the pensioner was allowed to go home.
