SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

DAIRY FARMERS' PROBLEMS [nY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Monday Strong opposition to recent, legislation affecting farm labour was voiced at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Companv. Limited. The question was raised by Mr. H. L. Barker, who stated that many old and large suppliers were going out of dairying, the legislation being such that it was driving those who had to employ labour from the industry. Unless something was done to cure the position, the industry would go to tho wall. "They will probably say 'but look at the price you are getting,' " added M(\ Marker, "but what about increased costs ami charges!''' Unless dairy farmers throughout New Zealand entered an emphatic protest, ihoy would iind themselves in sore straits. Several other speakers agreed with the views expressed by Mr. Harker, but no motion was adopted.
