CENTENNIAL PARK
WAITAKERE RANGES SCHEME SUPPORT FOR PROPOSAL At a meeting of the general committee of the Waitakere National Centennial Park Citizens' Association an executive committee was appointed, consisting of the Hon. Bernard Martin, the Hon. T. Bloodworth, Messrs. W. Goodfellow, J. B. Paterson, E. Earle Vaile, T. U. Wells and C. R. Spragg. Mr. C. Maeklev was appointed honorary secretary. It was decided to ask Sir Ernest Davis, as chairman of the Centennial Committee for Auckland, to be patron of the association. Support for the proposal to make a national park in the Waitakere Ranges the chief centennial memorial had been received from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand, the Auckland Institute and Museum and flic Automobile Association (Auckland). Owners of land in the ranges are to be invited to join with those citizens who have already given over 4000 acres toward the project. An offer to contribute £SOO toward the provision of picnic grounds, fireplaces and other amenities has been received from the Automobile Association. The public are asked to mark their approval of the movement by addressing or delivering donations and subscriptions to the rooms of the association, 83 Queen Street. The subscription has been fixed at ss. and a ready response will enable early action to be taken with a view to stopping the present spoliation of the bush.
