WATERFRONT BUSES

SHELTERS FOR PASSENGERS TRANSPORT BOARD VIEWS The view that it was not the duty of the board to provide shelters for passengers on the bus route to St. Heliers was expressed nt the meeting of the Auckland Transport Board yesterday, when a letter from the Tamaki Residents and Ratepayers' Association and one from the Kohiniarania-Mission -Bay Progressive League, forwarded from the City Council, to which it had been addressed, were received. The Finance Committee of the City Council stated that it endorsed the urgent need for the erection of shelters. The letter from the Tamaki association suggested a conference between representatives of the operators on the route, L. J. Keys, Limited, the City Council, the Transport Board and two local associations. The Hon. F. E. Lark, who presided in place of the chairman, the Hon. H. G. ,R. Mason, said ths hoard should advise the bodies interested that it would be willing to have a representative at such a conference, but that it considered the onus of convening the conference did not lie with the board. "I think the matter should go to our Shelters Committee, which could ascertain how far the operators and the City Council would be willing to go," said Mr. J. A. C. Allum. "The operators would not do it unless given an assurance that the shelters would form part of their assets." Mr. Allum moved that the Shelters Committeeshould consider the matter and report to the hoard. "We have done our duty by giving the operating company a renewal of its licence for three years," said Mr. J. Saycgli, who considered that tho board should advis) that it did not desire to enter into a conference. He added that it was now the duty of L. J. Keys, Limited, to provide the amenities from which the company's service would receive the benefit. Mr. W. H. Nagle pointed out that operating companies on other routes had provided shelters. The motion was carried.

THE TE PAPAPA SERVICE AN APPLICATION GRANTED The application for the addition of two buses capable of carrying 14 people for the City-Te Pa pa pa passenger service was granted by the Auckland Transport Board as Metropolitan Licensing Authority yesterday. The board also decided to allow the 10.50 p.m. trip from the city to To Papapa to be cancelled owing to lack of support. The question of an amendment to the fare schedule of the Point Keso-hition-Cit.v service was adjourned until the next meeting of the board.
