NEW TRAMWAY SIDING

GREEN LANE ROAD PROJECT VIEW OF HOSPITAL BOARD Possible adverse effects tipon patients in the Auc-klantl Infirmary Were envisaged by the Auckland Hospital Board last night when the proposal of the Auckland Transport Board to construct ft tramway siding in Green Lane Boad from Manukau Boad to a point approximately opposite the Show Ground gates was discussed. The views of the board were sought by the One Tree Hill Borough Council which had decided to oppose the plan. The opinion avhs expressed by Mr. J. Savegh that the question was an issue between the Transport Board and the One Tree Hill Borough Council. The board should not be influenced in making any decision, and to stop the proposal would be to prevent the introduction of a public amenity and convenience. "I hope we will not encourage the perpetuation of a system of "transport which is becoming obsolete in every part of the world," stated Mr. J. V.' Macky. "It is the absence of such noises as those incurred in tramway operation which lends favour to the infirmary as an institution for old people." The board decided to express the opinion that the installation of the siding would not be in the best interests of the infirmary patients. Mr. Sayegh and Mr. E. H. Potter dissented.
