BRITON ARRESTED
GEBMAN BOEDER OFFICIAL AT VIENNA CHARGE NOT DISCLOSED EXPLANATION SOUGHT By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, August IS On the orders of the Gestapo (Nazi .Secret Police), Captain Thomas Kendrick, British passport control officer at Vienna, was arrested on crossing what was formerly the Herman border on his way to England on furlough, says a message from Vienna. Captain Kendrick is a British subject, anil has occupied his present position for IS years. The nature of the charge against him has not been revealed. The British Ambassador in Berlin, Sir Xevile Henderson, has ashed the Foreign Ministry for an explanation. Captain Kendrick was driving with his wife when he was stopped by Gestapo officials. His wife was not arrested, but accompanied tho party to Vienna. The arrest may be merely technical. Captain Kendrick was crossing an area prohibited to foreign officers, and the authorities were possibly unaware that although Captain Kendrick holds the rank of captain he is 110 longer serving in the Arniv.
