TWO-DAY ROMANCE
BREACH ACTION SUCCEEDS As a sequel to a two-day romance 12 years ago, Miss Kathleen Hogen, nurse, of Chislehurst, Kent, has won a breach of promise action in Shanghai Supreme Court. She was awarded £250 and costs against Albert George Carnell, of Shanghai Municipal Fire Brigade. On behalf of Miss Hogen it was stated that she and Carnell met in 1926, two days before the man sailed from England for India with his regiment. They became engaged. Since then they had never seen each other again. They wrote freely until 1931, when Carnell broke off the engagement. Five months later he asked to be taken back, but in ]9.'W he censed to write. Then, in 1934, he said they could bo married the following year. Carnell was now married to another woman.
