STOCKS AND SHARES
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE MORE ACTIVITY IN MARKET A spurt .of investment dealing over a wide, range resulted in a greatly increased turnover on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Although the majority of shares showed declines, the tone o,f tho market at tho close was more active. Dealing in Government loans was unusually heavy, inscribed stock selling particularly freely. Tho general trend of business was toward lower levels. Banks also met with more active support. Most of the issues were fairly steady, but English, Scottish and Australians lost some ground, New Zealand insurance made a forward move. National Timbers wero stronger. Weakness was evident in breweries, where Now Zealands lost Is 3d in dealing on poor buying support. Eights to Dominions -suffered a further marked setback. Miscellaneous industrials were more active. Recent weakness in G. J. Coles was reflected in a sale Is 6d lower. Broken Hills eased slightly, but British Tobacco changed hands at an advance. Morts Dock sold for the first time ex dividend and bonus. Levels for Imperial Chemicals were weaker. Taranaki Oils again declined.
MOTOR BODY CONTRACT
A contract to supply £200,000 worth of motor-car bodies for tlio Australia 11 market of Standard Car Distributors has boon secured by T. «J. .Richards and Sons, Limited, Adelaide. The contract is for the supply of 2500 units.
