REFRESHER SCHEME ROTORUA DISTRICT TEACHERS CLOSING OF SCHOOLS / [Br TELEGRAPH —OWN C'OIIItESPON DKNt] ROTORUA, Friday With the special permission of th< Auckland Education Board the primarj schools throughout the Rotorua districl closed on Wednesday, two days earliei ; than usual, for tlio August term holidays, to allow the teachers to undcrgc a refresher course in specialist subjects. ■ The course is being conducted undct the auspices of the Rotorua branch ol the New Zealand Educational Institute at the'Rotorua High School, and when .the conference opened this morning there were present over 80 teachers ?rom primary and native schools ■throughout the Rotorua district, including Taupo and To Whaiti. Ihe teachers ■were welcomed by Mr. C. A. McKinnev, headmaster of the Rotorua primary school and president ot tlio branch, and by Mr. W. G. Hanvood, headmaster ,of the Kotorua High School. Mr. A. MeOliepney, assistant senior inspector of schools, who attended with another inspector, Mr. C. Robertson, stated that the Auckland kducation Board had appreciated the request made by the Rotorua branch for a refresher course, and he had no doubt that the results would bo reflected in the improved standard of work done at tho schools in. the district. The'refresher course, which will continue until Saturday, is a comprehensive one. It includes lectures and demonstrations on various craits by Miss .C. Polfe, from the Waihi District High School, music by Mr. Ramsay Howie, lecturer in music at the Auckland Training College, physical exercises and posture by Dr. Helen Deem, Schools Medical Officer, and choral speaking and voice production by Mr. Dennis Johns, from-the Kowhai Intermediate School.
