RETURN TO JULY 30 DECREASE OF 2894 IN MONTH 1321 AWAITING PLACEMENT [nv TELKGItAI'H —PItESS'ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The unemployment return to July 30 released by the Minister of Labqpr, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, discloses a reduction of 18,514 against the corresponding figure last year. Compared with the position at July 2 there is a decrease of 2894. Details for the past two periods are as follows: —■ July 2 July 30 Registered but not on relief 1,051 1,3(1-1 On sustenance awaiting placement .. 3,210 1,321 On Schcmo No. 5 relief . . 2,032 1,2-M Totals t>,823 3,029 There were 8000 on sustenance who were totally unfit for employment. For the four-weekly period under review the expenditure from the fund under the heading of employment promotion, as distinct from rcljef expenditure, is estimated at £377,572.
