BASKETBALL TOURNEY
A NEW ZEALAND WIN 1940 INVITATION ACCEPTED (Received August 10, 7.25 pan.) MELBOURNE, August 10 In the Australian basketball tournament to-day New Zealand defeated New South Waies, 21—18. The players for New Zealand were:. —Misses M. Tangye, E. Neame, J. Willson, M. Howe, M. Martin, M. Matangi and J- Mitchell. The New Zealanders mostly played inaccurately, the smaller rings and the heavier ball affecting the forwards. Victoria, .33, beat Tasmania, 12. The Australian council favours the formation of an inter-Empire body and the invitation has been accepted for its first meeting in New Zealand in 1940, at the same time as the centennial tournament. The All-Australia team to play isew Zealand to-morrow is as follows:—B. Douglas, L. McConchie, R. Coffey, D. MiddletOn, *D. Eckhart, M. Linton and J. Wodd (Victoria), R. Good and M. Richter (South Australia), E. Medcalf [(New South Wales).
