A NEW ZEALAND WIN 1940 INVITATION ACCEPTED (Received August 10, 7.25 pan.) MELBOURNE, August 10 In the Australian basketball tournament to-day New Zealand defeated New South Waies, 21—18. The players for New Zealand were:. —Misses M. Tangye, E. Neame, J. Willson, M. Howe, M. Martin, M. Matangi and J- Mitchell. The New Zealanders mostly played inaccurately, the smaller rings and the heavier ball affecting the forwards. Victoria, .33, beat Tasmania, 12. The Australian council favours the formation of an inter-Empire body and the invitation has been accepted for its first meeting in New Zealand in 1940, at the same time as the centennial tournament.
