TAKAPUNA CLUB DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON The Takapuna Boating Club held its annual distribution of prizes and dance in the clubhouse, Bayswater, on Saturday night. There was a large attendance of members and visitors, including Lieut.-Commander E. W. Monckton, Captain H. H. Sergeant, harbourmaster, Mr. E. Griffiths, chairnian of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee, Mr. M. K. Draffin, viceehairman of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, and representatives from the various yacht clubs on the Waitemata, the Manukau and in Suva. The president, Mr. H. S. Whitehorn, 111 extending a welcome to tlic visitors, referred to the excellent services rendered by the harbourmaster. He said that Captain Sergeant had always taken a very keen interest in the club and yachting generally. The commodore, Mr. H. M. Green, said that the past season had been a most successful one and on behalf of the club he wished to thank boat-owners for their support. Record entries had been received in the races for class Z, the average entry for each event being 30. Ten new boats were under construction and would be taking part in the racing this season. The success of class Z was mainly duo to the efforts of Messrs. J. J. Maekay and N. Matheson, who had devoted a great deal of their time in teaching boys the art of small boat sailing. Mr. M. K. Draffin congratulated the club on its success on behalf of the association and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
Captain Sergeant said that class Z boats were most suitable for boys who desired to take up yachting—-and so popular had tho class become that this season it was proposed to race tho boats in two divisions. In 10-10 it was hoped to hold the contest for the Cornwell Cup in Auckland as part of the Centenary celebrations. The prizes were presented by Mrs. H. S. Whitehorn at the request of Captain Sergeant. The most important prizes were won by the following:—Championship flag, class V, Surprise; Winstone Trophy, Mahanaj championship flag, class T, Vamp; Jubilee Cup and miniature. Ace; cup and miniature, class Y. Mania; championship flag, naval whalers, "Whaler '2SKI; Lawless Shield (forward hand at tiller), G. Reid; Mills Memorial Cup (best-kept Z class boat), Falcon; Sports Cup (most improved hand), B. O'Donovan; Whitehorn cup, T. Kennedy; Derrick Reid Memorial Cup (first boat over the starting line on Regatta Day), Knnoni; Trevio Shield (inter-club race for Z class), Swish; Blomfield Shield Points Cup, Swish; Fortzer Cup (runner-up to Blomfield Shield). Tanva; J. J. Mackay Cup (crews over 3.> years of age). S. Rielly; Massey Thompson Cup (Northcote v. Bayswater crews), won by Northcote; Mackay Challenge Cup, Ly'a; Trevic Shield spoons, S. Mason (skipper), G. Reid (forward hand). Other first prize winners were:—Classes M, L and N, Valk.vria, Huia, Komuri; class V. Hawk, Irina, Velox (secowl and cup), Paroro; S class, Sonoma, Mahana, Annette, Sirona ('">); class T, Endeavour. Treasure. Invader; class Y, Avenger, Demon, Mania; Silver tern class, Endeavour II.; sailing dinghies, Joy; Z class, Lyla, Swish ('_>), Ranee, le Hoa, Tamate, Pat C, Ranoni, Paddy.
ROYAL AKARANA CLUB SAILING DINGHY RACES The Royal Akarana Yacht Club held two races for sailing dinghies on Saturday afternoon, starting and "finishing off the clubhonse, Campbell's Point. Both events were sailed in a moderate south-west wind and good starts were effected. In tho first contest, which started at 2.55 p.m., the finishing times were: —Scram (scr), 3h 23m ss; Swan (set). 3h 24m 255; Wishwynne (Sm). 3h 25m 48s; Scarab (10m), 3h 31m iss; Maumau (14m), 3h 35m 10s. The result on corrected times was:—Wishwynne (W. Cogswell), 1; Scarab (H. Aimer), 2; Maumau. 3. The second race started at 3.55 p.m. Ihe finishing times were:—Swan (scr), 4h 34m ss; Scram (scr), 4h 3fim 2Ss; "Wish wynne (3m), 4h 37m 15s; Tired-Tim (4m). 4h 35m 455; "Weona (10m), 4h 30m 20s; Scarab (8m), 4h 44m 286; Maumau (14m), 4h 48m 455. , The result on corrected times was:—Weona (J. Calvert), 1; Tired Tim (D. Goodfellow), 2; Maumau (K. Aimer), 3. Mr. T. McKnight was in charge of the racing.
