THE HORNS OF A DILEMMA

Sir. —Some time ago 1 happened to read the solemn pledge taken by wouldbe Parliamentary candidates for the Labour .Party, in which the presumptive candidate bound hiinsell irrevocably to tho policy of the nationalisation of the means of puwduction, distribution and exchange. Vet some of the men thus solemnly pledged are telling farmers —owners of our greatest means of production—that the Government does not intend to nationalise their farms. They fail, however, to give any guarantee that they will not commandeer the farmers' products, and by means of officials run his farm lor him. If Labour members pledge themselves not to nationalise the farms, they land themselves on the horns of the following dilemma: If they do not nationalise the farms, they are false to their pledge to the Labour Party; if they do nationalise the farms, they are false to their pledges to the farmers. Probably, they will find some way out; but to me it seems a had dilemma. A. WANBUIITON.
