LINK WITH CHRISTCHURCH NEW BRIGHTON'S APPROVAL \ . [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday The amalgamation of the borough of New Brighton with tho city of Christchurch has been brought a step nearer by a proposal for the linking of the two areas by a strip along the boulevard site on. the bank of the River Avon. The New Brighton Borough Council this evening approved its amalgamation sub-committee's suggestion that the sanction of the Internal Affairs Department should be sought for a proposal to amalgamate the city and the borough in this way. Reporting on behalf of the sub-committee, the Mayor,. Mr. E. L. Smith, said that this method of bringing about the desired amalgamation might bo more expeditious than waiting for legislation, although minor adjustments would bo necessary. The Heathcote County Council's area would not bo divided by amalgamation on the lines suggested. As soon as information was received from the department, a conference of bodies concerned would be held. A further report would then be made to the council.
