THE LEAGUE CODE

REPRESENTATIVE GA3IE, AUCKLAND TEAM'S SUCCESS! ' GOOD SHOWING BY CANTERBURY In a bright and fast exhibition, Auckland defeated tho Canterbury Rugby j League representatives at Carlaw Park on Saturday by 28 points to 22. Conditions were good, although the ground was a little heavy in the centre, and there was a large attendance. Auckland was rather fortunate in 1 taking the honours, as two of its tries appeared to have been scored aftei breaches had been made. Cantoiburj lost some splendid chances through lack of finish at the critical stage, but the players held to their task well, especially in the forwards. It was unfortunate for the visiting team ■that its leading ■ five-eighths, L. loung and O'Connor, were unable to make tho trip. it was in this department that weaknesses wi*re revealed. In tho first spell especially when Canterbury received a good share of the ball from the scrums, the five-eighths lacked tho necessary dash to give tho threcnuarters tlie opportunities that were offering. The Canterbury team, which had for somo time been under the tuition of J- E. Amos, the former international, was not afraid to throw the ball about, and a very pleasing feature of its plav was the sound tackling. Except for a period in the second spell, when Tittleton was allowed to break through, the Canterbury tackling was almost faultless, and held ih check many promising Auckland movements Credit to Forwards

A great deal of credit for Canterbury s j peed shewing goes to the forwards, and there ■ was no better player on the field than R. Price. He uas always in the thick of the j fray, putting plenty of dash into his play, as j well as being handy when a try was hkel.v. Besides-doing splendid work in the tight. Price was prominent in the loose ana handled well. He richly deserved the two tries which went to his credit. Other prominent forwards were Clark ana Barnard, while Airey hooked well in the first spell. The Canterbury pack tired during the second spell, and it was at this that Auckland had numerous chancesand v.*nt into a good lead. Making a tine re covery, however, Canterbury attacked again toward tho close, and reduced the deEC I fine impression in his first nt Carlaw Park was made by u. Brown, the Canterbury halfback.
