TO-DAY'S ACCEPTOKS LINCOLN STEEPLES FIELD BRYCE STREET IN FAVOUR [my telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Fine weather prevailed in Christchurch to-day and there was every indication this evening for another fine day to-morrow, when the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting will be concluded. The course has dried up considerably and the going should be much firmer than on the previous days. The principal event will be the Lincoln Steeplechase, which has a field of eight, including last year's winner, Forest Glow, and Erination, who is also in the Sydenham Hurdles. It was understood to-day that Erination was to start in the latter event. The chief flat race, the Heathcote Handicap, has drawn a good field, and the issue appears very open. Valantua will be ridden by L. J. Ellis, who has gone off Willie Win to take the mount. The following horses may be well supported.— Aylesbury Steeplechase. —Gold Wren, Nightbound, Uncle Jim. Longbeuch Handicap.—Strip, Lady Leigh, Rebellion. Sydenham Hurdles. —Fireguard, Erination, Pango. Styx Hurdles.—Lone Raider, Sunny Comet, Curie. Heathcote Handicap. Valantua, Ponty, Liane. There was no suggestion of their being seriously tried but many showed in an attractive light. In the first division, tlio Ringmaster colt, Master Hotspur, who cost Air. £. Hay 850gns., with a smooth display of galloping, finished clear of Not Out, who is owned by Mr. Georgo Gould, and Cyprine, owned by Mr. H. D. Greenwood. Jameaux Ravine, owned by Sir Charles Clifford, was at the head of the remainder. In tho second division, the Colossus colt Aranui, owned by tho Washdyko trainer, P. T. Hogan, who intends to take him to Molbourne, was first to pass the post from a filly by Philamor from Soldier's Fancy, trained by G. A. Fielding, Wingatui, and another filly from Wingatui, trained by F. Shaw, and by Cockpit from Chhota. Miss Otis, by Myosotis from Royal Baby, trained by T. Lloyd for Dr. M. G. Louisson, was fourth. SIRES OF THE SEASON The Great Northern Derby and St. Leger winner, Greek Shepherd, is to be at the service of breeders this season at Huntly, and particulars are advertised elsewhere in this issue. Greek Shepherd has not had a great deal of racing and ho is a commanding, masculine horse who shquld do well at the stud. Ho was bred in 1J32 being, by Iliad from Dresden China, by lea fray from Refineinent, by Shepherd King from Elegance, by Seaton DeJaval from Antelope, by Apremont from Miss Kate, also the ancestress of Phar Lap. Tlie shortage of utility horses in New Zealand is particularly emphasised in tho pony classes, for which the demand is constant in country districts. The imported Welsh pony horse, Gold Star, is to stand the season at Helensville and surrounding districts. The typo is well known for stamina and endurance, and was used in Army activities on the North-West frontier of India to the exclusion of all others. Particulars are advertised.
