BOXING
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS Tho Auckland amateur boxing championship meeting is recognised as one of the most popular fixtures of tho season and from the excellent entry received this year's championships (should bo well up to tho usual high standard. In each division tho winner will receive a medal and a special trophy to bo held for I'2 months and a medal is also presented to tho runner-up. Tho much-coveted E. A. Craig Cup will bo presented to tho most scientific boxer in tho tourney and tho Kolin Shield to tho most successful trainer. Last year's champions who will be competing aro E. Underwood, H. Sheridan, S. Stock, K. Moral), D. Branch, H. Neale and M. McHugh. The bantam-weight bouts in particular should bo exciting and closely contested as E. Underwood, paper-weight champion in 1937, 11. Sheridan, fly-weight champion tho same year, and Empire Gaines representative, and S. Stock, the present title-holder, will all bo competing in this section. Enthusiasts will follow the progress of Sheridan and Moran with considerable interest ns both exponents represented New Zealand at tho Empire Gaines this year. Sheridan, who was once again successful in the bantam-weight section at the Waikato championships is apparently fighting well up to form and in tho finals when ho met his team mate, T. Hurran, gave a polished exhibition of clever dofensivo tactics. Tho Auckland Association is giving much attention to the organisation of the tournament, which is expected to attract the usual enthusiastic audiences.
