PHYSICAL WELFARE

PERSONNEL OF COUNCIL SERVICE FOR ALL SPORTS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Friday The opinion expressed in some parts of the Dominion that individual branches of sport should have direct representation in the personnel of the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation was referred to b.y the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. The Minister said that the Government, in appointing the members of the council, considered the necessity of geographical representation of the Dominion and the all-round activities and organising abilities in sports promotion and control of those selected. The fact that a member of the council happened to be connected with a particular sport had not weighed in his appointment. That policy was supported by the combined sports bodies of the Dominion. "The work of the council," said the Minister, "will be conducted apart from sports bodies, although the council will assist with facilities all sports bodies. 1 certainly believe it will not make the slightest difference in the consideration of the claims of any sports body because that sports body is not directly represented on the council. Sports bodies will find, as the movement develops, that tho policy laid down will work well and bo helpful to all."
