French business men, alarmed at the sudden return of the Prime Minister, M. Daladier, from the Mediterranean, sold francs heavily, while many in London are inclined to the view that not merely nasal catarrh caused Mr. Chamberlain to interrupt his holiday. Bulk orders came from the Continent, but a novel development is purchases on behalf of America, South America and the Far East. M. Daladier, in a statement to the Paris press, declared that France's financial position was satisfactory, deposits at present exceeding withdrawals from the savings banks, contrary to normal holiday expectations. M. Daladier denied that a revision of tho tripartite currency agreement was pending.
