INTERESTING CONTESTS : ACCEPTORS AND PROSPECTS VIEW IN FAVOUR OF PADISHAH NED CUTTLE SOLIDLY FANCIED i The Grand National meeting of the " Canterbury Jockey Club will bo continued with Hurdles day to-day. Fine weather prevailed yesterday in Cbristchurch after showers overnight, 1 and there was every every promise of favourable conditions for to-day's racing, reported the Hekald's correspondent last evening. The track ho considered would probably be a little faster than on the first day, but that form should be .valuable to follow. The Grand National Hurdles is l likely to have a field of at least 14. It was reported yesterday that there was a possibility of A. E. Ellis riding Padishah, and in that case, lie would be in keen demand. It was his jumping that failed him in the Trial Hurdles, but if ho is ridden more forcibly into his fences, ho should show the required improvement. Clarion Call is to attempt the winning of both Nationals in the one year and there is every encouragement to assess his chances highly. The following horses were expected to find solid support: — Cup.—El Caballo, Gold Wren, Nightbound. Sumner Handicap.—Happy Night, Tidewaitcr, Sparkle. Beaufort Steeplechase.—All Irish, Valpeen. Woolston Handicap.—Half and Half, Second Innings, Lady Leigh. Grand National Hurdles.—Padishah, Fireguard, Clarion Call. Sprevdon Hurdles. Curie, Lone Raider, Top Rank. Islington Handicap.
