COUNCILS DIFFER

PROPOSED CREMATORIUM PROJECT FOR NORTH SHORE Differences which have arisen between the Takapuna and Dovonport Borough Councils regarding DcvonportV tentative proposal for the establishment of a crematorium at the O'Neill's Point Cemetery were mentioned at a meeting of the Dovonport council last night. Objection to the proposal was made by the Mayor and members of the Takapuna council on the grounds that property in tho Takapuna Borough adjacent to the crematorium would be affected in value. "This council is well within its rights in endeavouring to modernise its cemetery policy and. if necessary, establish a crematorium," said the Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle. "We have had little or no assistance from the Takapuna council—they have been content to 'sit on the fence'.and criticise what we do. O'Neill's Point cemetery is the finest site for a crematorium on the North Shore and comment from the Takapuna council will not deter this council from carrying out its duty in this direction, if tho need arises."
