WOMEN'S DIVISION

Kawhia.—There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Kawhia branch of the Women's Division, presided over by Mrs. W. W. Da vies. Ways of raising funds for a school dental clinic were discussed. Competitions were won by .Mrs. Allen and Mrs. J. Dearlove, and a demonstration of art metal work was given by Mrs. K. Mclntyre. Mesdames A. Barker and R. Ward presented a one-act. play. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames P. Menzies and H. Robertson. Reporoa.—The monthly meeting of the branch was presided over by Mrs. Campbell. Songs were given by Mrs. Maitland. The results of the competitions were:—Something new trom something old: Mrs. Iriis, 1; Mrs. Andrews. 2. Nut loaf: Mrs. G. Cornev, 1; Mrs. Dare, 2. Te Awamutu. —Mrs. L. Eyre, of Kihikihi, presided at the monthly meeting. Reports of the conference at Wellington were presented by Mrs. Neil, of To Kawa, Mrs. Rvburn and Mrs. Godfrey. A demonstration of tree pruning was given by Mr. F. Mason. Competition results were: —Toys: Mrs. Rae Pokuru, 1. Plum pudding: Mrs. A. Kay, of Tairini, 1. The judges were Mesdames Cavers, Pattison, Alston and Miss Sine. Afternoon tea was served by members . from the Kihikihi, Te Mawliai and Owairaka branches. Makarau,- —An address by Mrs. Tennent was given at the monthly meeting. The results of the competitions were: —Coconut ice: Mrs. I. Smith and Mrs. Miller, 1; Mrs. T. W. Hooper, 3. Best bloom: Mrs. Collie, Mrs. Cathcart and Mrs. I. Smith, 1; Mrs. H. Hooper, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. T. W. Hooper, 2. Recipe for pumpkin pie: J Irs. Lapage-Robbie, 1. Special fancy recipe: Mrs. E. R. Dunn, 1. Ngahiuepouri.—The balance-sheet of the recent social was read at the monthly meeting, and the members decided to make a small donation to the hall committee from the funds. Remits from the Dominion conference were discussed by Mrs. A. Bromwich. the delegate, and Mrs. Mcintosh. An appeal for blankets for the Spanish refugee children was made by Mrs. Mcintosh. It was decided to write to the provincial council asking that important remits should not be sent to conference unless they had been read and understood by the branches. The winners of the competitions were:— Mowers, Mrs. Mills; cakes, Mrs. Fitness. The hostesses for the afternoon were the Misses Callaghan. Kaukapakapa.—-At the monthly lfteetirtg Mrs. Grey Shanks presided. The resignation of Mrs. M. Buckton. who has left tlie district, was received with .regret. The results of the competitions were:—Flowers: Mrs. Y. Jones and Mrs. Greenall, 1; Mrs. Saunders, 2; Mrs. C. Jones, 3. Darned sock: Mrs. Alan Dye, 1; Airs. Greennil, 2; Mrs. 0. Shanks, 3. Mrs. Jackson, of Reweti, gave humorous sketches and also spoke of the reeentlv-formed Maori institute at Reweti. She was presented with a bouquet. Mrs. Noel Adams' essay competition was read and discussed. The hostesses, wore Mrs. NaTighton and Mrs. C. Jones. Waiati Pa. —The monthly meeting was presided over by Mrs. A. S. Cole. Seven junior members gave accounts of their visit, to Auckland for the educational week. The results of the competitions were:—Knitted cardigan: Miss Jenkins, 1; Miss Bell, 2. Best bloom: Miss D. Learning, 1. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames Anderson, Boyd and Ludin. Pukekohe. —There was a good attendance at the monthly 'meeting, at which Mrs. Keane presided. The paper prepared b.v the Workers' Educational Association for the women's groups dealing with national health insurance was discussed.
