LONDONER'S PROPOSAL BUILDING HIS OWN BOAT [from a special correspondent] LONDON, July' 23 A 54-years-old London contractor, Mr. William Baker, is planning to sail round the world from England via Australia, and he is making the boat in his back garden at Tottenham, London. "I cannot afford a super yacht," said Mr. Baker this week, "but I am getting more fun out of preparing this boat than if I could sit back and watch others do the work." Mr. Baker has paid £BO for the hull of Estelle V., the £IO,OOO super speedboat built for Miss Betty Carstairs, well-known motor-boat racer. With' a friend he spends everv hour of his spare time turning the null of the one® famous boat into a vessel that will withstand the buffeting of the Atlantio and the storms of tropical seas. "I do not know a thing about deepsea navigation," Mr. Baker said, "but i am taking lessons. This voyage round the world will take two years and will cost £4OO. which works out at £2 a week for each of us. I am going to call in and see my sister who lives in Melbourne.", The boat will be powered by two 20 horse-power engines and will be capable of eiglit knots. .
