TARANAKI SUFFERS
LAMB LOSSES UNLIKELY SERIOUS POWER-LINE BREAKS [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday The wind reached gale force in Central and North Taranaki to-day, and much damage was dono to gardens and plantations. Breaks occurred in power and telephone lines. The force of the wind had decreased considerably this evening. The stormy weather is not expected to have a serious effect on young lambs, for, although rain was driven before the wind this afternoon, the temperature was comparatively mild. The gale was much more severe in central and southern Taranaki. For somo hours Stratford and Eltham were without electric power, lines beingj blown down. The staff of the Taranaki Power Board stated that tho damage to tho reticulation was the most serious for ten years. The men would be working through tho night in an effort to restore power.
