HARRY BRIDGES' GROUP OPPOSITION TO COMMUNISM DENUNCIATION OF POLICIES (Received August 8, 0.40 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, August S Four unions affiliated to.the Committee of Industrial Organisation, namely, the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, the United Automobile Workers' Union, the United Rubber Workers' Union, and the United Slioe Workers' Union, voted after a secret 48-hour conference to withdraw from Mr. Harry Bridges' C.1.0. Industrial Union Council, and alleged simultaneously that the council "has worked hand in glove" with the Communist Party to the detriment of Labour.

Tho four unions represent over 20,000 workers in tho Lbs Angeles area. In a nine-point denunciation of Mr. Bridges-and his policies, the unions agreed to establish a C.1.0. Council independent of the Bridges group, and agreed unanimously to boycott Mr. Bridges' State Labour Convention schedule for August 19 to 21 at Los Angeles. The allegations against Mr. Bridges included acting as. a dictator, subordinating C.1.0. interests to Communism, maintaining control by fraud, and appointing Communists to executive positions regardless of their ability.
