POLICE COURT NEWS

WATCH AND MONEY STOLEN REMAND ON ASSAULT CHARGE A labourer, John Tuki, aged 23, appeared before Mr. C. It. Qrr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday on charges of stealing a watch valued at £l, the property of Gordon Wallace McLeod, and of stealing 10s, the property of Ida Culleu Cairn. Accused pleaded guilty to both offences. In a statement made to the police and submitted in evidence, accused admitted entering a shed and taking a watch, which was hanging in the building, on the spur of the moment. He said he later saw a man leave ten shillings in a house adjoining the shed and stole the money after the man had gone. For the theft of the watch, accused was fined £2. On the charge of stealing 10s, he was admitted to probation for one year and ordered to make restitution. Charges of drunkenness and of assaulting and resisting a police constable while in the lawful execution of his duty, were preferred against a labourer, Gordon Francis Bridges, aged 22. All the offences were alleged to have taken place in Wellington Street, City, on Saturday. Accused, who was represented by Mr. Singer, was remanded until Mondav, bail being fixed at one surety of £25.
