STATE HOUSING
ACTIVITY AT OTAHUHU MORE LAND ACQUIRED Advice that the Cabinet has approved the purchase of another area of land at Obahuhu for tlio erection of seven State houses has been received by Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P.. from Mr. J. A. Lee, Under-Secretary in charge of Housing. The area, of tlio land is not defined in Mr. Lee's communication, which merely states that the block is situated between Baldwin Street and the Great South -Road and is sufficient for seven units. Mr. Petrie said lie understood the block was the balance of the original Sturges Estate, which had been acquired fully a year ago by the department, and on which 51 houses were completed or in course of construction. The department acquired Monnio's Estate, facing Walmsley Road, Otahuhu, some months ago, and tenders have been called for the erection of over 20 houses on this block.
TUAKAU BLOOK BOUGHT TENDERS FOR FIVE DWELLINGS [from our own correspondent] TUAKAU, Monday A block of land on tho main Pukekolie Road at Tuakau has been purchased by tho State Housing Department for tho erection of a number of State houses in Tuakau, where the housing shortage presents a Rerious problem. Plans have been completed and tenders called for five dwellings. _ It is anticipated that work will begin early next month.
