Super Speed Monsters

BRITISH DRIVERS' PLANS RECORD ATTEMPTS ARRANGED Arrangements have been made for super-speed runs in connection with the world's land speed record at the Bonneville Saltbed, Utah, between two British-designed within the near future. Both cars have been shipped to America, and will attempt to lower the record under the supervision of the Contest Board of the American Automobile Association, which controls and times speed record events. The present position is that Captain George 10. T. Fyston, who already holds the existing record of 811.42 miles an hour, intenus to make his bid for added record laurels some time before September. Since Captain Eyston's giant "Thunderbolt" was taken back to England after its successful performance in America last November, modifications have been effected. It is hoped that these will give even greater speed in the next assault on the record, when it is also hoped that better conditions than last time will be experienced. September has been reserved by Mr. John Cobb, who has predicted great performances for his unorthodox beetleshaped four-wheel drive Hailston-Dun-lop outfit, with which he will try to wrest the coveted record from his fellow Britisher. The car was df'sigmjd by Mr. Heid Hailston, and is expected to attain a speed of 350 miles an hour. The unusual streamlining effect adopted in this car's design gives an impression of might and security. It is also reported by the Punlop Bulletin that rumours are current in America that the special machine being built for Mr. A. Jenkins, the American contender for the record, will be ready some time this month or next. As yet he has made no application for a scheduled date for his attempt to win the record for America.
