YOUNGEST ADMIRAL
SUBMARINE EXPLOITS HEROISM AT DARDANELLES Admiral Sir Martin Dunbar-Nasmith, V.C., K.C.8., Britain's youngest admiral, is to become Commander-in-Chief nt Plymouth. He will succeed Admiral Sir Reginald Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax on September, 30 next. Born in '• 1883, Sir Martin DunbarNasmith had a particularly distinguished war record. He was made a captain, after only a year as commander, at the age of 33. This was the sequel to exceptional service in command of submarine E.ll at the Dardanelles, where he gained his V.C. On three occasions he passed and repassed the minefields and forts, and raided enemy shipping in the Sea of Marmora.
On one occasion he remained there for 47 days. He destroyed nearly 100 vessels and actually torpedoed a transport lying alongside the wharf in Constantinople itself. Since the war lie has been FlagCaptain in tllie Mediterranean, BearAdmiral in charge of submarines, and Commander-in-Chief in the East Indies. He is now Second Sea Lord of the Admiralty.
