The forecast is for vari " -' able winds south of Hokitika and Banks Peninsula; elsewhere southerlie* - ' to south-easterlies prevailing, strong " at first about and north of Cook Strait but gradually decreasing, and else' - where light to moderate. Seas roueh'nt first north of Farewell Spit and Kai ' koura, but decreasing to-night; else-" where slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds later becoming variable; seas slight to moderate. Passing showers are prob able 111 eastern districts between Cook Strait and Eaxt Cape and the far north but improving gradually, and elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with many, sharp frosts.
