AIRPORT SURVEY COSTS • DESTRUCTION OF PINE TREES A decision to forward a contribution toward the cosx of a preliminary survey in connection with the proposed airport on the Manukau Harbour* was made at the meeting of the Howick Town Board on Thursday night. This action, however, would not bind the, board to any future financial assistance toward the major scheme. The board's quota amounts to £2 18s. The destruction of several young pinetrees on the marine parade reserve was reported to the board, which decided to put the matter in the hands tif the police. In connection with the - centennial celebrations in 1940 the chairman, Mr. L. B. White, stated that a public meeting had' been called for Thursday night to arrange for the appointment of a committee, which would take stops to arrange some permanent scheme to mark the event; Mr. White said the board had been assured of tho support of local organisations. .
