RUTH DRAPER'S VISIT

THE AUCKLAND SEASON Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming season of • Miss Ruth Draper, which will open at His Majesty's Theatre on Monday, August 15. Special box plan arrangements are advertised in this issue. Miss Draper will sail for America by the Mariposa on August 22. Of this famous artist, the London correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald says:—"Huth Draper is one of the few real geniuses that the theatre has produced. Sargent's portrait of her shows you the real Ruth Draper, one hand holding the folds of a shawl which, through her genius, becomes something to- keep old age warm or to enfold youth. Her face is vivid, her eves brown, warm, alive. Her fellow-artists go to her performances to learn what genius can teach them. Noel Coward, John Gielgtid and Ivor Novello aro among her devotees. Her fatMr was a distinguished doctor in New \ork, her brother Paul a brilliant musician. She is taking a repertoire of about 40 sketches to Australia and New Zealand. People become annoyed because this one woman seems to bo able to do everything which the army of tho theatre is usually called to do. And—- ' Only one little lady in one small dressing room, and really, to talk to her you wouldn't think she was anything very wonderful.' " Miss Draper has attracted an unprecedented amount of public attention by her appearances in tho theatres of Australia and other countries, and the brilliance of- her performances has won tho acclaim of all who have been fortunate enough to have seen her. The people she portrays aro all products of hor own pen, so that she combines in herself tho roles of author, producer and actress, and imparts to each of them a touch of her outstanding genius.
