CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR
JA/ORLD CONVENTION OPENS 2000 .DELEGATES ATTEND (Received August 2, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 2 Flags of all nations, symbolising the f unity of Christian Endeavourers, decorated the Exhibition building tonight, when the 10th world convention of the Christian Endeavour .Union was opened in the presence of about 8000 people. More than 2000 delegates from all parts of Australia and from overseas are taking part in the sessions of the convention. The world president, the Rev. Dr." Daniel Poling, of Philadelphia, issued a message before the convention, in which he said: "We believe the sessions will provide a message of hope in a troubled world. In the proceedings emphasis, will be laid upon all that, which unites and saves, never upon-that which divides and destroys." A feature of the opening to-night was the lighting of a multiple torch, comprising 20 torches, one for each country represented, which will burn upon tho platform throughout the convention. ...
