TANKS REPORTED IN ACTION

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 3, 12.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 2 Fifteen Soviet aeroplanes bombed the Japanese positions at Changkufeng, on the Manchukuo frontier, again this morning, according to a statement to-day by the Japanese War Office at Tokio. These positions were twice attacked yesterday by Soviet aeroplanes with bombs and machine-gun fire. Later heavy bombers crossed the Tumen River and attacked the railway near Kaimsojyo. Five of the Soviet machines were shot down. It was reported officially from Moscow last night that the Russian troops had recaptured the hill at Changkufeng from which the Japanese claimed on Sunday to have driven them out after six hours' fighting. The Japanese Foreign Office denies that the Russians recaptured Changkufeng. Twenty additional bodies of Russians have been found there, bringing the total to 70. A Korean communique says that Soviet aeroplanes twice flew over the front line positions at Changkufeng, bombing and machine-gunning. No damage was done and there were no casualties. Details from the border are scanty, but indicate renewed fighting with tanks and aeroplanes.
