TEACHERS SALARIES

PRIMARY STAFFS BENEFIT OTHER SCHOOLS NOT AFFECTED The new principles to bo employed in the adjustment of the salary scale for teachers, announced by the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, on" Saturday, will affect only primary teach- - ers, it is believed, and not those on the staffs of the secondary and tech- , nical schools. Statements to. this effect were made yesterday by men connected with the teaching profession. For primary teachers to obtain" salary -* increases and advancement in the past, it was explained, they were compelled to change positions, moving from one . school to another. ' The frequent changes which resulted were not in the best interests of either the pupils or the teachers. It was with the object of avoiding these changes that the new scheme was partly designed. Primary teachers under the new»pi an, therefore," were only receiving something that was their due. In secondary and technical' schools, it was stated, the existing system enabled teachers to" obtain salary increases and advancement without the necessity of changing positions nearly as frequently as primary staffs.
