LABOUR COUNCIL'S LEGACY DUNEDIN PROPOSES CHANGE LIMIT TO HOUSING SCHEME [IJY TKLKGHAFH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Friday The policy of tlio last City Councii in Dunedin, 011 which there was a predominance of Labour members, has been changed in several directions already by the present council and further modifications are. now foreshadowed. An investigation ot the existing sick pay arrangements to council employees has been carried out hv the Finance Committee, :w;d at a meeting on Monday night it will recommend the discontinuance of the present scheme of two-thirds pay to all employees over an unlimited period, and the adoption of amended proposals providing ior payment during sickness at half -rates, the allowance to continue for a maximum period of three months in any one year. The present very liberal arrangements, which included subsidised workers, cost the council last year a total of £4090. In regard to the council's housing scheme, the Finance Committee will recommend on Monday night tnat tbo scheme should he carried on to the extent of loans already authorised. As advice has been received from the Local Government Loans Hoard that the council's application for sanction to raise a third loan ol £IOO.OOO for housing purposes has been approved, the recommendation is tantamount to the limitation of further expenditure to

that sum. The committee also recommends revision of the scheme to provide among other things for the fixing of the minimum deposit by any borrower at 7 per cent of the total and the limiting of the advance in any caso to £12.-)0.
