RIOTS AT RANGOON
BUDDHISTS OFFENDED PUBLICATION OF A BOOK TROOPS RESTORE ORDER RANGOON, July 20 policeman was killed and 22 Indians, 11 Uurme.se and eight policemen were injured in rioting between Buddhist monks and Mahoinmedans as the result of the publication of a book regarded as insulting to Buddhists. Yorkshire Light Infantry are standing by, armed with machine-guns, forming a cordon round the riot area, and keeping the situation under control. Ten thousand vernacular leaflets, signed hy the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, appeal to the public for peacefulness, and a gazette, proscribing the offensive bock, will be issued in the morning.
