SCHOOLBOY GASSED

WORK IN LABORATORY INHALATION OF CHLORINE CONDITION NOT SERIOUS Affected by chlorine gas. a 15-year-old schoolboy. William Irving Taylor, son of Mr. and .Mrs. .T. Taylor, of 11 Mel ford Street. Ponsonhv. was admitted to the Auckland Hospital late on Tuesday afternoon. He was still suffering from the effects of the poison last night. The boy was engaged in laboratory work at the Auckland Grammar Sehoc.l when he collapsed. He is one of a number of senior boys who customarily assist with the preparation of chemicals used for subsequent experimentation, and although the mishap occurred after school hours, at about 4.30, he was doing authorised work. Apparently he had been generating some chlorine gas for filling specimen jars for demonstration purposes and it, is thought that he must have breathed in too much of the mixture. Although lie had sufficient experience not to inhale a dangerous quantity, it is considered possible that a recent minor illness might have made him unusually susceptible to the gas.and he collapsed. Immediately the "mishap occurred thd boy was rushed to hospital and given treatment. The speed with which he was placed under proper care was stated yesterday to have prevented dangerous results and his condition last night was not regarded as serious.
