With regard to mutton and lamb, the allocation for the calendar year ]!).'5S is considered to he sufficient or New Zealand requirements. The estimates supplied by the hoard during the year in respect of shipments oi i New Zealand porker and bnconer pig-> to the United Kingdom have been accepted by the British Government, j '"The year lias seen the establishment |in the United Kingdom of the Inter- ! national Beef Conference., comprising | representatives of the United Kingdom land of Umpire and foreign countries substantially interested in the supply of beef to the United Kingdom market," states the report. "Its function is to regulate the supply of beef to the United Kingdom from overseas in the interests of producers and consumers alike, having due regard to seasonality of supplies from all sources, including * Home production, and the potentialities of the several producing ' countries. . . .
"An Umpire Beef Council consisting of the nominees of the Umpire countries at tlio conference lias also been established. Jts function is to consider matters affecting the well-being of the Umpire beef trade, including the Umpire aspect of any questions which may come up for consideration by the conference."
Mew Zealand's position in connection with the Beef Conference is adequately safeguarded, the report continues. .New Zealand representatives on both ibe lan pile Beef Council and the International Jieef Conference, appointed by the Mew Zealand Government, are Mr. I{. S. Forsyth, the board's London manager, and Dr. JU M. Campbell, economic adviser to the M'ew Zealand High Commissioner in London. The allocations made to date by the conference in regard to beef and veal supplies from M'ew Zealand have been in accordance with estimates furnished by the board and are considered adequate.
