More than 100 delegates to the annual conference of tho association, which is mooting in Wellington, attended tho presentation. They represented thr returned men of Now Zealand who subscribed, mostly in small amounts, to the cost of the portrait. It was also tho work of a returned man, -Mr. A. l'\ Nicoll, of Christchuroh. lhe president of the association, tho Hon. W. Perry, handed over the portrait and it was received on behalf of the board of trustees by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, deputy-chairman of the board.

Mr. Perry said Sir Andrew Russell's eoncern after tho war was for tho men who served under him. Ho was Dominion president of tho Returned Soldiers' Association from 1021 to 1924 and again from 1027 to IO.'V), His wise guidance had placed the association on a sound foundation.

Mr. Hislop said that the portrait section of the Art Gallery was designed to contain tho portraits of those who had served Now Zealand well. There would bo none depicting a man who had more worthily served his country.
