CHATHAM CUP CONTEST
J GOOD PROGRESS IN SOUTH NORTH ISLAND FINAL DELAYED Good progress has been made in southern centres with the Dominion club premiership competition for the Chatham Cup. The local finalists have been found in Wellington, Christehureii and Dunedin. Mosgiel beat Maori Hill in the final at Dunedin and Nomads defeated Western, the present holder of the cup, in the final at Christchurch. The successful Wellington side was Waterside, which had a convincing win over Seatoun. Waterside, according to the original draw, was to meet the Auckland provincial winner in the North island filial at Blandford Park next Saturday, but owing to the fact that Hamilton Wanderers and Huntly Starr have as yet failed to reach a decision in the Hamilton section of the competition, the match has had to be postponed. Ponsonbv, the local winner, will have to play tho Hamilton finalists before the North Island game can be staged.
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP AN INTERESTING POSITION The wet weather experienced on Saturday precluded any play in the Auckland senior championship, which is in a very interesting position at present. Although the championship ladder shows North Shore with a three-point lead over Thistle, the next nearest team, the former's position is not as safe as it would seem. Thistle has, owing to its Chatham Cup engagement, played one game fewer than North Shore, and should it defeat Ponsonby in the outstanding match it will be a serious rival for the championship honours. As five more scries of matches remain to be played in the competition. both Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys and Comrades, which are four points behind North Shore, also have a good chance to improve their positions.
