MAORI WARFARE IN NORTH Warfare was being carried on among the Maoris in North Auckland 50 years ago. The following extract is from tha New Zealand Herald of July 23. 18S8: "The report from the scene of the native troubles is that the fighting i* over for the present. The residen magistrate, - Mr. Clendon, and (.-on (stable Gordon returned to \Uiaugarei late last night. There are known he three killed and four wounded. IV. Clark went out with .Mr. Clendon to attend to the wounded men. 1 opinion among well-informed peope that only .Mr. C. Mitchelson. the Minister of Native Affairs, can se the difficulty.
